How to be a better ally on Wear it purple day and every day
ACTIVELY USE PRONOUNS
Actively use your pronouns when introducing yourself, and add to email signatures & social media. Pronouns aren’t just for gender diverse people, everyone can use them and normalise using them in day to day life.
Respectfully ask others their pronouns
USE GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE
By using gender neutral language, you are being more inclusive of diverse people and also challenging gender stereotypes
It’s easier than you think, and you may be surprised by how many gender neutral words you already use!
ACKNOWLEDGE AND CELEBRATE DATES OF SIGNIFICANCE LIKE WEAR IT PURPLE
Post about them on social media with links to LGBTQIA+ groups like GASP & Minus 18
Ask your school to recognise the days
Check in with your queer friends around dates of significance
LEARN MORE ABOUT DIFFERENT GENDERS AND SEXUALITIES
Having more knowledge about the different gender and sexual identities will mean you don’t have to ask uncomfortable questions and will be better able to support your queer mates by understanding their identity
Using correct language and terms shows support and respect for LGBTQIA+ people
