RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS

We provide a range of programs, training and support to school to enhance their inclusion of LGBTQIA+ students into school life and help make safer schools for everyone.

Stand Out Groups

The program is for LGBTIQA+ identifying students, allies and any student who may be questioning their sexuality or gender identity. The aim is to create a safe and inclusive environment to share experiences and have positive conversations.

The challenges young people might be facing at school can be discussed to develop a plan to raise awareness of LGBTIQA+ issues and positive change. Our Youth staff assist the Stand-Out group and school to become self-sufficient once our Youth program support concludes.

Stand Out Community of Practice

The LGBTIQA+ Stand Out Community of Practice provides an opportunity for school staff to share the amazing work they do creating safer, inclusive spaces and supporting rainbow young people. These meetings also offer a space to present barriers/challenges and brainstorm solutions with colleagues and professionals.  The community of practice meetings coincides with an online hub that the City of Greater Geelong is developing that hosts resources, activities and guides to better support stand out group facilitators in secondary schools.

Meetings are held twice each school term (8 meetings per school year).

Inclusive Practise Training

Training sessions that provide participants with the necessary skills to be able to provide a safe and inclusive environment for young people from the LGBTIQA+ community.

Training content includes topics such as terminology, Mental Health issues experienced by rainbow young people, sexuality and gender, pronouns and names, how to develop an inclusive environment and best practice when interacting with the Rainbow Community.

Events and Resources

Celebrating events like IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple Day are important for creating visibility for LGBTQIA+ students, supporting inclusion in your school community and education students and staff about LGBTQIA+ Identities. We provide schools with resources for both IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple, support schools to run events during the week of both and have information pages available.
