RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS

We provide a range of programs, training and support to schools to enhance their inclusion of LGBTQIA+ students into school life and help make safer schools for everyone.

Stand Out Groups

The program is for LGBTQIA+ identifying students, allies and any student who may be questioning their sexuality or gender identity. The aim is to create a safe and inclusive environment to share experiences and have positive conversations.

The challenges young people might be facing at school can be discussed to develop a plan to raise awareness of LGBTIQA+ issues and foster positive change. Our youth staff assist the Stand Out group and school to become self-sufficient once our youth program support concludes.

Stand Out Community of Practice

The LGBTQIA+ Stand Out Community of Practice (SOCOP) provides an opportunity for secondary school staff to share the amazing work they do creating safer, inclusive spaces and supporting rainbow young people. The network offers a space to present barriers/challenges and brainstorm solutions with colleagues and professionals.

The SOCOP has exclusive access to an online hub for resources, activities and guides to better support the establishment and facilitation of Stand Out groups in secondary schools.

Meetings are held once each school term (4 meetings per school year).

To find out more or to express interest in joining the Stand Out Community of Practice, please contact Steph (She/Her), Youth Development Officer - Social Inclusion.

Inclusive Practice Training

Training sessions that provide participants with the necessary skills to be able to provide a safe and inclusive environment for young people from the LGBTQIA+ community.

Training content includes LGBTQIA+ terminology, mental health issues experienced by rainbow young people, sexuality and gender, pronouns, how to develop an inclusive environment and best practice for your school or organisation when interacting with the rainbow community.

celebrating days of significance

Celebrating communty days of significance like IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple Day are important for creating visibility for LGBTQIA+ students, supporting inclusion in your school community and educating students and staff about LGBTQIA+ identities.
We provide schools with resources for both IDAHOBIT and Wear it Purple, support schools to run events during the week of both these days, and have information pages available.
